Comment from reader Greg on Turkey Basters

February 28th, 2008

For almost 20 years I thought I was getting food stuck in my tonsils. Just
the other day I decided to lookup “tonsils bad breath”. I felt like I won
the lottery. I finally figured out why after I brushed my teeth I would
still have a bad taste in the back of my mouth. For years I would use my
tongue to get the tonsil stones out. At times I would use a tooth pick.
Tonight I purchased a dental pick.what a waste of money. My wife called it
a jack hammer. I almost drowned! As silly as it sounds.I went through the
kitchen drawer to find something to get back there. Low and behold I found
the good old turkey baster. That was god sent. I first tried to suck the
little stick bombs out. No such luck. I then got frustrated and tried
filling the thing with water and flushing my tonsils. Those stink bombs
didn’t have a prayer.the water flushed them right out of my mouth.into the
sink. The turkey baster is very gentle but forces enough water in the right
spot to do the job. My breath is nice and clean.

I can’t even begin to imagine how many people are having this issue and have
no idea what tonsil stones are. The funny thing is that there are some
people I work with that have bad breath. I found a way to email them about
tonsil stones without telling them they have bad breath. I am one to sent
interesting yet informational email to my friends and co-workers. Trust
me..If you don’t know when your breath stinks..you have bigger problems.
Hopefully they got the hint and will hit the jackpot like I did.

Greg, can you send me your tactful e-mail. I KNOW that the person in the office down the hall from me has this problem. I can’t think of a tactful way to inform him of this issue.

I was reading your post and an interested in how you approach the situation.

Greg, I was a bit fustrated that I didn’t know what I could do besides surgery. I tried your method it worked. You can’t imagine how thankful I am. Thank you very much for taking the time to write this on the website.

Greg, I just wanted to say you’re a genius. I have been coughing up these little things since I was younger and never realised what they were. I have just tried the turrkey baster method and it worked like you wouldn’t believe!! Thankyou so much for sharing you secret!! Nick Clements.

Greg, I’m looking into trying your method, but mine aren’t noticeable. I know they are deep in my crypts. I can feel and taste them! Ick! Will your method still work?? Please email me!

this sounds like it would totally work, i just beg you to answer a few specifics. When you squirt the water, do you put the basters tip into a hole (crypt) or against one or just against your tonsil period? And secondly could you please try and find a pic or url link a picture of a similar if not the same bater you used? i’m begging you i litterally have been contemplating suicide the past 2 days. The taste is awful and it feels like something stuck in my throat. It’s gotten so bad for me that I can no longer bear to eat much of anything. Trust me the last 4 days i’ve been starving, I mean my stomach actually hurts from not having food, but I’m having like a mental breakdown, and I’d honestly rather die than have to keep going through this. THIS IS THE MOST DISGUSTING THING I HAVE EVER HAD TOP DO IN MY LIFE! I THROW UP EVERY TIME I POP ONE OUT AND IT FALLS ALMOST THE WHOLE WAY DOWN MY THROAT. I’D PROBABLY DIE OF SHOCK IF I EVER SWALLOWED ONE. PLEASE HELP ME.

I had these nasty things for years, and when I was 17 or 18 I decided to have something done about it. I found a great ENT doc in Boston who agreed to take them out as soon as I told him my problem. He scheduled an appointment and at the end of the week, my tonsils were gone! The following week and a half were pretty rough, but it was so worth it in the end! That was about four years ago and I have never had another tonsil stone since! I highly recommend getting the surgery.

I used a water pick for the first time last night. I bought it from Wal-Mart for $35. It was awesome. I just sort of aimed at my worst tonsil (righty) and released the trigger. Lots of tiny stones washed out along with one big one. Because it was water, it didn’t cause any damage and was painless. I did have to control my gag reflex though. That was the best $35 bucks I have ever spent!!! Oh yeah, make sure the setting is on low to medium.
